Detection of Pathologies in X-Rays Based on a Deep Learning Framework
Camasca, Jhonatan; Calderón Niquin, Marks; Mamani Ticona, Wilfredo
The diagnostic process of respiratory diseases requires experience and skills to
assess the different pathologies that patients may develop. Unfortunately, the lack of qualified
radiologists is a global problem that limits respiratory diseases diagnosis. Therefore, it will be
useful to have a tool that minimizes errors and workload, improves efficiency, and speeds up
the diagnostic process in order to provide a better healthcare service to the community. This
research proposes a methodology to detect pathologies by using deep learning architectures.
The present proposal is divided into three types of experiments. The first one evaluates the
performance of feature descriptors such as SIFT, SURF, and ORB in medical images with
machine learning models as an introduction to the last experiment. The second one evaluates the performance of deep learning architectures such as ResNet50, Alexnet, VGG16, and LeNet. Finally, the third one evaluates the combination of deep learning and machine learning classifiers. Furthermore, a novel chest X-ray dataset called PathX_Chest, which contains
2,200 images of ten different classes, is presented. In contrast with the state of the art, good
results were obtained in the three different approaches. However, the best performance was
achieved by combining deep learning and machine learning: a 99.99 % accuracy was obtained
with the combination of ResNet50 and SVM classifier. This methodology may be used to
develop a CAD system to help radiologists have a second opinion and a support during the
diagnostic procedure

principal a la pandemia.; The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a socioeconomic crisis in each
country hit by the disease, being the Spanish-speaking countries the most affected due to their
economic structure. Authors such as Orgaz warn that COVID-19 is expected to wipe out 6.7 %
of working hours across the world only between April and June 2020, which is the equivalent
of 195 million full-time workers losing their jobs. In order to know people’s opinion, this
research developed a model to analyze the emotional effects of unemployment in the Spanish speaking population in times of COVID-19 on Twitter social network using the SEMMA
methodology and the Orange Canvas tool. The results showed that, out of the 6,000 tweets
analyzed, the unemployment is associated with the terms poverty, pandemic, country and
work. It was also determined that Twitter users have a negative and neutral feeling regarding
unemployment, and consider the pandemic as its main cause.

Twitter data related to poverty and basic income was collected for 24 days in
2019, and then was cleaned and prepared for natural language processing. A 7 % subset of the
data was manually labeled for sentiment analysis in order to inform the artificial intelligence
(AI), which was trained and verified on this subset. We present the results for both the 7 %
verification sample and the entire database. This analysis of public opinion on poverty is
situated within the Sustainable Development Goals and the support for poverty reduction

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COVID-19 “is an infec tious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.” Different media have recommended
diverse treatments for COVID-19 including chlorine dioxide, which is said to cure and
prevent COVID-19 because it increases oxygen levels in the blood. Health experts declared
that such information was false and, on the contrary, it could cause hemoglobin oxidation
and trigger more health problems. This research aimed to develop a data mining model on
a lexicon-based sentiment analysis on Twitter concerning the use of chlorine dioxide for
COVID-19 treatment, using the CRISP-DM methodology and the Orange Canvas tool.
The results showed that the word chlorine dioxide is associated with the words yes, take and
COVID. On the other hand, people’s opinion regarding chlorine dioxide tended to be nega tive and neutral, and resulted in mixed ratings. This means that the 4,500 tweets analyzed in
the research either accepted or rejected chlorine dioxide for COVID-19 treatment in different
proportions.
