Minimization of Product Distribution Delays through An Integration Model of Lean Manufacturing Tools and A3 Report - Case Study

Abstract

El Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) de América Latina y el Caribe representa aproximadamente el 70% del sector manufacturero. El suministro de productos es vital para las empresas de consumo masivo debido al consumo de la población. Mejorar la logística de la cadena de valor maximiza las oportunidades comerciales. Los productos de higiene se venden bien. La escasez de palés impide la entrega. Este estudio propone un modelo que integra el marco Lean Six Sigma, los principios de Lean Manufacturing y el informe A3 como herramientas de comunicación y seguimiento para garantizar el éxito de la mejora. El aumento de paletas permite una entrega más rápida del producto. El modelo integrado utiliza el diseño para Six Sigma y herramientas de trabajo estandarizadas para diseñar el nuevo proceso y la metodología de reporte A3 para mostrar la importancia del problema, las contramedidas propuestas para su implementación inmediata y los indicadores para el seguimiento y control del proyecto de mejora. El rendimiento aumentó la disponibilidad de palés en un 92 %. El nuevo proceso de reparación de pallets aumentó la eficiencia al 95%. Este estudio sienta las bases para futuras investigaciones y puede ayudar a otras empresas con dificultades comparables.

Latin American and Caribbean Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is about 70% of manufacturing. Product supply is vital for mass consumption enterprises due to population consumption. Improving value chain logistics maximizes business opportunities. Hygiene products sell well. Pallet shortages impede delivery. This study proposes a model that integrates the Lean Six Sigma framework, the lean manufacturing principles, and the A3 report as communication and monitoring tools to ensure improvement success. Increased pallets supply sped product delivery. The integrated model uses the design for Six Sigma and standardized work tools to design the new process and the A3 report methodology to show the importance of the problem, the countermeasures proposed for immediate implementation, and the indicators for monitoring and controlling the improvement project. Implementation increased pallet availability by 92%. The new process of pallet repairs increased efficiency to 95%. This study sets the stage for future research and may help other firms with comparable difficulties.
