Perspectives on last mile logistics: a sustainable approach

Abstract

Gradually the urban freight transport to final consumers is gaining relevance worldwide, with a rapid adoption stimulated also by the global health crisis. This also brings to the attention of the world interest regarding its carbon footprint and sustainability; therefore, our objective is to present a review on the diverse ways in which it is proposed to lessen the impact of last mile logistics. For this, a systematic literature review was conducted, using the prism method and the VOS Viewer literature analysis tools. The analysis found a growing interest in the subject, along with proposals in every aspect of the logistics process. The main concern is the actual transportation of the items and the preferred measures to ensure sustainability were the proposals for alternative vehicles, which proved to have the greatest effectiveness in the sustainable development of logistics activities.

Poco a poco el transporte urbano de mercancías hacia consumidores finales está tomando relevancia a nivel mundial, con una rápida adopción estimulada también por la crisis mundial sanitaria. Esto trae también a la atención del interés mundial con respecto a su huella de carbono y sostenibilidad, por lo tanto, nuestro objetivo es presentar un a revisión sobre las diferentes formas en las que se propone aminorar el impacto de la logística de última milla. Para esto, se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura, utilizando el método prisma y se utilizaron las herramientas de análisis de literatura VOS Viewer. En el análisis se encontró un creciente interés en el tema, junto con propuestas en cada aspecto del proceso logístico. La principal preocupación es el transporte en si de los elementos y las medidas preferidas para asegurar la sostenibilidad fueron las propuestas de vehículos alternativos, los cuales demostraron tener la mayor efectividad en el desarrollo sostenible de las actividades logísticas.
