| es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | This study examines the impact of telecommunications infrastructure (TI) on the growth of GDP per capita for 10 representative countries of Latin America in the period from 2010 to 2017. Telecommunications infrastructure was analyzed through 3 variables: subscriptions to mobile lines per 100 people, subscriptions to broadband servers per 100 people and percentage of the population with internet access; in order to capture the development of TI on economic growth represented by GDP per capita. It was proposed that TI has a positive effect on growth, given that telecommunications have the ability to increase productivity levels over other factors according to the previous literature. To verify the previously described, an econometric dynamic panel data model of fixed effects with a GMM estimation was used, which has the advantage of accounting for the separate effects of the countries and avoids the biases associated with cross-sectional regressions by taking into account the fixed effect of every specific country. It was found that the broadband variable has a significant negative effect of
0.004146% for each broadband subscriber per 100 people against the growth of GDP per capita due to the low levels of penetration in the Latin American region. In addition, it was determined that the internet variable has a positive effect of 0.214905% for each 1% increase in the population with internet access on the growth of GDP per capita. Finally, the mobile lines variable proved to have no relevance on the growth of GDP per capita. It should be noted that the results were similar to previous literature. | en_EN |
