A Serious Game for Recycling Education in Peruvian Children
Resumen
Peru has one of the lowest recycling rates compared to other emerging countries and the Latin American region. One of the main reasons is the lack of environmental education. The present study aimed to implement a serious game to teach children to recycle from their own homes. The game, developed following the guidelines of the MDA framework and using the Unity programming language, consists of 3 modules in which recycling concepts are reviewed, such as classification, collection, and reusability. To verify the usability of the game and its efficiency for learning, 93 children between six and seven years old were surveyed before and after using the game. Data analysis was performed using an ANOVA test. The results show that the game is fun, easy to use, and allowed its users to significantly improve their recycling knowledge.
