Productivity Enhancement by Layout Redesign and Application of Lean Principles in the Apparel Industry
Abstract
The growth of the textile-apparel industry has been significantly harmed by the pandemic experienced in 2019. However, this was compounded by previous problems such as the low quality of products, the large amount of waste, and unproductive times, among others. These have had a significant impact on the low productivity of this sector, which hinders its ability to compete with large Asian competitors. An essential part is the correct management of processes and plant design. The proposed proposal uses tools such as TQM, 5S, Poka-yoke, SLP, and process standardization to improve the current productivity indicator of 0.04 und/PEN after the implementation of the pilot plans and the simulation carried out with Arena, an increase in the secondary and primary indicators was obtained, which reached 0.11 und/PEN. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
