Implementation of Lean Manufacturing and SLP in an SME in the jewelry sector: Case Study
Abstract
Peru, despite being a mining country, does not represent one of the largest jewelry exporters worldwide. Likewise, jewelry SMEs present problems regarding delivery times, due to delays in the production process, causing a failure to meet the delivery date agreed upon with the client. Therefore, the following field study arises to improve compliance with delivery times in a jewelry SME. The main objective is the optimization of production processes by eliminating non-added value activities and redistributing the journey of operators by applying 5S, SMED and SLP tools and using VSM analysis tools, Pareto diagram, Ishikawa diagram. The results obtained showed an increase of 43.2% in the 5s evaluation matrix. The total reduction in travel distance was 115.76 meters using the SLP tool. Finally, a 30.32% reduction in set-up times with the SMED tool. Therefore, a reduction in production process time was obtained by 117.01 minutes, contributing to an improvement in delivery times.
