En el complejo entorno empresarial actual se exigen operaciones globales pero a la vez flexibles, motivo por el cual las empresas son, más que nunca, vulnerables a las interrupciones de la cadena de suministro. La presente investigación identifica qué tan importante es para una empresa que su cadena de suministros sea resiliente, así como también determina los beneficios y compara las reacciones de una empresa que cuenta con esta característica con una que no lo hace, frente a un imprevisto.
Para ello se ha utilizado un enfoque de investigación cualitativa inductiva para identificar las principales variables que describen el concepto de resiliencia y las relaciones entre ellas. Los principales hallazgos de esta investigación apuntan a que la resiliencia reduce el impacto de una interrupción en la cadena de suministros permitiendo que ésta reaccione mientras se recupera a su estado funcional, original o incluso mejor, teniendo como conclusión que existen diferencias, tanto en el impacto operacional como en el financiero.
