Reduction of Excess Waste through Lean Manufacturing and SLP Tools in a Peruvian Balanced Food SME
Abstract
Currently, due to the high industrial competitiveness, for the SME in the balanced food sector to stay afloat, it is essential to minimize their costs. To do this, they must be able to improve the efficiency of their production processes, an achievable goal from the reduction of waste. This research will abroad this problem with a new model composed of 4 tools: SLP, 5S, TPM and Standard Work; and the validation of this, through a pilot test for 5S and the use of the Arena simulator to validate all the tools together. In this way, the use of the tools made it possible to improve each of the proposed indicators to solve all the root causes, achieving most of the objectives that were set out in the case study. Finally, after carrying out this study, it was concluded that the combination of the SLP and Lean Manufacturing tools allow reducing the amount of waste below the industry standard, decreasing by around 1.65%.
