Improvement of Productivity in SMEs of the Textile Sector through Lean Manufacturing: A Case Study

Abstract
The present study was conducted within a textile workshop situated within the manufacturing sector of the Peruvian textile industry. Numerous challenges impact the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises in this sector, including extended periods of inactivity, reprocessing, and substandard quality, among others; the primary aim of this research is to enhance productivity in accordance with the industry benchmark of 0.13 units per PEN. A production model incorporating the Standardized Work, 5S, SLP, and Poka-Yoke methodologies was implemented as part of the proposed solution. Simulation of the present state and the enhanced state was subsequently accomplished utilizing the Arena software. Arena application. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the suggested model increased output by as much as 0.11 percentage points, decreased cycle time to 318 minutes, and enhanced effort (kg-m), which totaled 349 kg-m. Ultimately, this study was conducted to aid in the expansion of the industry and serve as a benchmark for businesses employing comparable procedures seeking to enhance efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.
