Arquitectura que cura, un nuevo paisaje urbano para la integración social: Centro de atención de trastornos mentales en etapa inicial en el distrito de San Miguel

Abstract

La evolución de la salud mental ha sido un proceso largo y complejo, marcado por cambios significativos en la forma en que las sociedades comprenden, abordan y tratan los trastornos mentales llegando a un punto de estigmatización en la sociedad, sin considerar la realidad en la que todos podemos ser víctimas de problemas que puedan afectarnos emocional, cognitiva y sentimentalmente. Es debido a esto que nace el interés del presente proyecto para obtener el título profesional: diseñar un centro de salud mental que rompa con los esquemas convencionales, explorando la relación entre el ser humano y la naturaleza dentro del entorno urbano evidenciando un enfoque arquitectónico evolucionado para reconocer la importancia que tiene actualmente el entorno físico en el bienestar psicológico. El proyecto que se ejecutará a través del Ministerio de Salud (MINSA), se ubicará en el actual terreno del “Centro Juvenil de Diagnóstico y Rehabilitación de Lima (Maranguita)” en el distrito de San Miguel planteando la reubicación de los internos a otros centros de rehabilitación juvenil más idóneos de Lima y provincias, para posteriormente demoler la infraestructura que actualmente se encuentra en estado deplorable. En su lugar, se propone un nuevo edificio que responda a las necesidades y percepciones espaciales de las personas que padecen enfermedades mentales en etapa inicial, cumpliendo así con el objetivo de utilizar la arquitectura como una herramienta terapéutica que no solo beneficiará a los usuarios directos, sino también a la ciudad, al integrar áreas dedicadas a la salud, la cultura y el comercio, fomentando la interacción entre los pacientes y la comunidad formando un nuevo paisaje urbano.

The evolution of mental health has been a long and complex process, marked by significant changes in how societies understand, address, and treat mental disorders, reaching a point of stigmatization in society, without considering the reality that we can all be victims of problems that may affect us emotionally, cognitively, and sentimentally. It is due to this that the interest in the present project arises to obtain a professional degree: to design a mental health center that breaks with conventional schemes, exploring the relationship between human beings and nature within the urban environment, highlighting an evolved architectural approach to recognize the importance of the physical environment in psychological well-being. The project, which will be carried out through the Ministry of Health (MINSA), will be located on the current site of the "Centro Juvenil de Diagnóstico y Rehabilitación de Lima (Maranguita)" in the San Miguel district, proposing the relocation of the inmates to other more suitable juvenile rehabilitation centers in Lima and the provinces, to subsequently demolish the infrastructure that is currently in a deplorable state. In its place, a new building is proposed that responds to the needs and spatial perceptions of people suffering from mental illnesses, thus fulfilling the objective of using architecture as a therapeutic tool that will not only benefit direct users but also the city, by integrating areas dedicated to health, culture, and commerce, fostering interaction between patients and the community, forming a new urban landscape.
