Productivity Improvement in a Canned Fish Production Company Applying 5S, TQM, and Three Pillars of TPM Tools
Abstract
Lean Manufacturing concepts have been applied in manufacturing companies quite frequently. However, there are few records of its implementation in companies in the canned sector. Therefore, techniques are required that maintain their efficiency and productivity over time. In this research, the objective is to increase the productivity of an SME producing canned fish by applying 5S, TQM and three pillars of TPM tools. Through the DMAIC methodological process, a diagnosis of the company was carried out, finding the root causes of its main problems; As well as Lean tools were applied in a pilot test in the organization. After implementation, improvements were obtained in the company’s key indicators; Therefore, the effectiveness of the management model is demonstrated by applying these tools in a food company, contributing to the current knowledge on the subject.
