Desarrollo de un fotolibro sobre la escena ballroom limeña "Category is: ballroom en Lima"

Abstract

"Category is: Ballroom en Lima" es un fotolibro digital que tiene como objetivo presentar los elementos más representativos de la Escena Ballroom limeña mediante un registro fotográfico de diversos balls entre abril de 2022 y octubre de 2024. Las fotografías presentan la Escena Ballroom de Lima a la sociedad, capturando el glamour y la performance de estos eventos, mientras que también reflejan la historia de lucha y resistencia que atraviesa la comunidad. El proyecto se estructura en cuatro temas principales: "Lucha", "Orgullo", "Comunidad" y "Presencia". Cada uno de ellos funciona como eje temático para narrar cómo esta cultura ha logrado consolidarse y crecer en la ciudad. Para llevar a cabo este propósito, se ha optado por un diseño gráfico vibrante y dinámico, acompañado de una diagramación que refleje el lenguaje visual de esta cultura. De este modo, el fotolibro no se limita a registrar las balls, sino que busca establecer una narrativa visual que comunica el valor simbólico y artístico de la Escena Ballroom limeña, mostrándola como un espacio de libre expresión de la identidad y celebración de la diversidad.

"Category is: Ballroom en Lima" is a digital photobook that aims to showcase the most representative elements of Lima’s Ballroom Scene through a photographic record of various balls held between April 2022 and October 2024. The photographs introduce the Ballroom Scene in Lima to the broader society, capturing the glamour and performance of these events, while also reflecting the history of struggle and resistance experienced by the community. The project is structured around four main themes: “Resistance”, “Pride”, “Community”, and “Presence”. Each theme serves as a conceptual axis to narrate how this culture has managed to consolidate and grow within the city. To achieve this, the photobook adopts a vibrant and dynamic graphic design, accompanied by a layout that reflects the visual language of the Ballroom culture. In this way, the project goes beyond merely documenting the balls; it seeks to establish a visual narrative that conveys the symbolic and artistic value of Lima’s Ballroom Scene, portraying it as a space for the free expression of identity and a celebration of diversity.
