Relación entre desregulación emocional y conductas autolesivas en adolescentes

Abstract

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue identificar la relación entre la desregulación emocional (DRE) y la prevalencia de conducta autolesiva en adolescentes mediante una revisión aplicada. Se realizó una búsqueda, en enero del 2025, en las bases de datos: APA PsycNet, ScienceDirect, EBSCO y ProQuest. Se seleccionaron 10 artículos de investigación cuantitativos que relacionen ambas variables en adolescentes dentro del ámbito psicológico. Se encontró que existe una relación entre la DRE y la conducta autolesiva. Asimismo, los resultados indican que la DRE en la niñez predice la conducta autolesiva en la adolescencia, y su continuidad en esta etapa se asocia con dificultades en la regulación emocional en la adultez. Igualmente, se encontró que la presencia de otras psicopatologías o variables psicológicas influencian estas relaciones y que un historial prolongado de conducta autolesiva compromete la mejora de DRE en el tratamiento. Las limitaciones de esta revisión fueron la diversidad de instrumentos utilizados, la falta de estudios en poblaciones latinoamericanas y el tiempo de seguimiento en algunos estudios. Se recomienda realizar investigaciones con metodologías más rigurosas y en otros países, así como investigar alternativas de tratamiento de menor duración con respecto a Terapia Dialéctica Conductual para Adolescentes (DBT-A).

The objective of this study was to identify the relationship between emotional dysregulation (ED) and the prevalence of self injurious behavior in adolescents through an applied review. A search was conducted in January 2025 in the following databases: APA PsycNet, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, and ProQuest. Ten quantitative research articles that examined the relationship between these two variables in adolescents within the psychological field were selected. The findings indicate a relationship between ED and self-injurious behavior. Furthermore, the results suggest that ED in childhood predicts self-injurious behavior in adolescence, and its persistence during this stage is associated with difficulties in emotional regulation in adulthood. Additionally, it was found that the presence of other psychopathologies or psychological variables influences these relationships, and a prolonged history of self injurious behavior compromises the improvement of ED during treatment. The limitations of this review include the diversity of measurement instruments used, the lack of studies in Latin American populations, and the follow-up period in some studies. It is recommended to conduct research using more rigorous methodologies and in other countries, as well as to investigate shorter-duration treatment alternatives compared to Dialectical - Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A).
